I can certainly find some other use for the cool vintage Weaver scope, but as posted above, a handgun scope or actual scout scope will probably be needed. I moved the scope back as far as possible and it still requires more eye relief to get a good sight picture. This is what I came up with, and it probably isn't going to work. Not that B-Square would care or even be in a hurry to improve their products. See, now you've read another negative comment. Never understood why a company like B-Square would sell such half baked piece of junk. Fired a couple hundred rounds, holds zero like a charm. No more wiggling, no more need for over tightening the set screws. I machined a U-shaped steel insert that firmly fits between the rear sight cams and around the ridge at the bottom of the mount. Then I replaced the two tiny bolts with one large threaded rod with a nut on each side. I drilled out the damaged threads for the mounting bolts, actually drilled all way through. Look at all the aluminum chips sticking to the bolts, look at the buggered threaded holes in the mount! Well thought out engineering. Carefully loosen the set screws, then remove the mounting bolts. Re-tighten, re-zero, WAIT!!! what happened to the tiny bolts connecting the mount to the rear sight ears? Why are they bent down? Because the set screws are pushing the mount up, dummy.

Re-tighten, correct windage, this time it takes much longer to lose zero but it does happen. Quick check, the set screws are bit loose. Only a few rounds after sighting the rifle in, windage seems to change. The next thing you will notice it that the mount's tail end will wiggle left and right before the set screws are tightened.

If you have a K98, the screw will bend down and deform the lip holding the upper hand guard. That is, if you have a Czech or Yugo Mauser. Note the front set screw, it presses down on the rear sight's front screw. These screws are much beefier than the tiny mounting bolts. Not only used for leveling the mount parallel to the barrel but also used to tighten the mount against the original rear sight assembly. Introducing two set screws: One screw in front and one in the back of the rail. Even with the bolts tightened, the rail will still sea saw. These tiny bolts screw into the Picatinney rail which is made from black anodized soft aluminum. The mount is held in place by two tiny short bolts, using the holes in the rear sight ears.

First, you need to understand how this mount works. It's a poor realization of an otherwise good idea. Whoever made negative comments about the B-Square mount.should be praised for telling the truth. I have read negative comments about the B Square mount.

Low mount scope and rings onto this existing B-Square mount. I will post more pics, but you get the idea. Any recommendations based on what you see here would be most welcome. Trouble is, I don't know anything about this type of mount or forward low mounted "Scout" scopes. Since this M48 came with a B-Square scope mount, I would like to add an appropriate scope and rings so this Mauser can stretch its legs a bit. I purchased this rifle on a whim because I am a sucker for minty C&R rifles.
